HOW WE STARTED

OUR STORY

Old Yardeians Vixens Rugby was established in 2017 as an under-13 group of six girls from two clubs (Old Yards and Eds). As these girls moved up the age groups more players, and clubs felt the benefit of joining forces with one clear vision “Giving girls the opportunity to play rugby”.

Now, the Vixens have over 50 players in all age grades (under 12, 14, 16, and 18) and are supported by over 15 coaches and a committee of volunteers who are committed, passionate, and driven to make Old Yardleians Vixens RFC the elite go-to club for girls of all ages to access rugby across the West Midlands.

We have an experienced and robust setup made up of forwards & back coaches for age ranges along with dedicated team managers to help support any girls wanted to play rugby.

Old Yardleians Vixens Rugby aims to offer girls in and around the Solihull area and wider regions the opportunity to take part and enjoy the game of rugby, creating long-lasting friendships along the way.

Our Old Yardeians Vixens Values

As a club we embrace the following values to ensure girls enjoy rugby and everyone wants the same thing…..

Testimonial

Harriet (Under 18s Captain) 2023/24 Season

Starting as a group of just 6 girls hoping to continue playing rugby, Solihull Vixens began in 2017. Slowly but surely, we grew as a team, soon competing against top local teams and developing rapidly as players. Of course, COVID-19 stunted this and it became very difficult to continue to play with rules being implemented regarding what type of training was allowed.

However, since then, thanks to the incredible work of the coaches here and the dedication of all our players, the team has continued to grow and I am really excited for the future. I am so proud to be a part of such a lovely, welcoming group of girls and to be a part of the growth of women’s rugby (currently the fastest growing sport globally). Seeing it go from strength to strength with all our age groups full of such potential is really rewarding and I am very grateful to be a part of it.

I would really encourage anyone of any age, ability and experience to take up rugby here – both the sport and the social side of this club have benefitted me greatly, physically and mentally.

Please do get in touch if you fancy trying it out!
